Belly Dancing

Stacey MacKlem offers 6 week sessions in Belly Dance classes held in the fitness studio on Wednesday nights from 7:30pm to 9:00pm. The cost is $70.00.
Belly Dancing is an ancient dance, created by women for women. It is characterized by controlled movements of the pelvis, hips, belly and rib cage. These movements range from soft, wave like and flowing, to fast shimmies, rhythmic lifts and drops to the beat of the music. Expression is also gained by using the shoulders, arms and hands alone during slow pieces of music and as an accent to other body movements.

Belly Dance is a supremely feminine art and an excellent exercise for women. It is suitable for women of all ages, shapes and sizes, as you can progress at your pace and still have fun, dance, and feel sensual. It is a wonderful practice for any woman looking to increase her body confidence and inner sense of connection with her own body.

Stacey Macklem, Belly Dance teacher and performer, will be offering the course. She has been studying Belly Dance for the last 6 years and has been teaching it for 5 years. She draws on many different styles of the dance in her teaching and presents a variety of moves suitable for beginners in this course.

The focus will be on the strengthening and toning of the major areas used in Belly Dance, the abdominal muscles, hip muscles and lower back muscles as well as the thighs and gluteal muscles. Close attention will be paid to proper posture and stance.

If you’re looking for a fun new way to exercise, where you can use your imagination and let your body flow to strains of exciting drum rhythms and exotic melodies, while getting an excellent workout, Belly Dance may be exactly what you’re looking for!

Stacey offers 6 week sessions on a regular basis. Classes are held on Wednesday evenings from 7:30pm - 9:00pm in the fitness studio.
